Senior Accountant
Job summary
Responsible for preparation of assigned journal entries and allocations; preparation and reconciliation of financial statements, including P&L and balance sheets; monthly reconciliation of various accounts; prepare month-end close; assist General Accounting Manager with implementation and documentation of control process improvements; assist General Accounting Manager with projects as required. Must be able to handle a diverse range of duties with limited supervision and exercise initiative and independent judgment.
Essential duties and responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Assist in the implementation and documentation of control process improvements.
- Assist in the scheduling and testing of internal controls across all departments.
- Regularly meet with department managers to discuss variances to forecast and to ensure accurate expense accruals.
- Reconciliation of numerous balance sheet accounts.
- Monthly validation of all reconciliations, with follow-up on any reconciling items.
- Reconcile accrued expenses; identify and record the monthly expense.
- Assist General Accounting Manager with monthly commentaries and financial presentations.
- Assist General Accounting Manager and external auditors with final year-end processing.
- Ensure accuracy of general ledger input.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors’ degree in Accounting is required; MBA is a plus.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ accounting experience, with 2 years of public accounting experience or equivalent exposure.
- Minimum of 1–2 years’ internal control experience: preparing, testing, and maintaining internal control documentation.
- Extensive computer knowledge. Excel and Powerpoint required. SAP experience a plus.
- Must be analytical, accurate, and self-motivated.
- IFRS experience a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints.
- Ability to operate in a team environment.
- Ability to adapt in a changing work environment.
Physical requirements
- Ability to safely lift 20 lbs.
- Ability to bend and reach files and cabinets where records are stored.
Environmental responsibilities
- Support environmental programs established within the organization, to include recycling all office wastes according to program guidelines, and initiating power conservation techniques by turning off lights and computers when not in use.
- Proactively look for ways to reduce negative impacts on the environment.

- Proactively work in a safe manner in the context of performing the functions of your position.
